Did you know that 1st to 8th of September 2019 is Adult Learners Week (ALW)?  It’s a UNESCO initiative, so it’s the same day all around the globe. Adult Learning Australia is coordinating community -based activities during the week in Australia.

I encourage people who are working in organisations, particularly those in learning teams, to think about using the week to promote and celebrate lifelong learning / continuous learning practices. Involve all the people working in your organisation. Consider involving others that you work with beyond the boundaries of your organisation.

I know many of you are looking at future work practices and building learning agility in your people in organisation. This week is a great week to do something to promote lifelong learning practices and independent learning amongst your people. Start planning an activity or event.  Make it fun.  Showcase how people are already learning.  Do something that gives them ideas and practices that they can use to further advance their own learning and get themselves future ready.

I’m running a couple of events in the lead up to ALW and during the week. I’ll announce the first one next week. It’s an Idea Fest to help with generate ideas for activities and events. So look for information about that on LinkedIn and my website on 2nd August. I will also run an online activity that anyone can join in during ALW – the first week of September.

Get your thinking caps on.  Share with others what you’re already planning if you have got something planned. I’ve started a discussion for this purpose on LinkedIn.  Let’s help each other to make sure we do something to make the most of Adult Learners Week.
